what’s your sign?

Gemini’s are the best sign in the Zodiac, and Leo’s are the worst. Here’s why…

Just kidding. That is not what this post is about, nor will it ever be. But if you were curious to know more about your zodiac sign, then you’ve landed in the right place.

If someone were to ask, “What’s your sign?”, you would probably respond with something like “Virgo” or “Libra”. This isn’t wrong, but I’m about to let you in on information that will make you more astro competent than most of your peers. You aren’t just one sign - You possess all of them.

I’ll set it up this way: let’s say that there is a play. The planets are the actors, and the sign is the role that the actor is playing. For example: the Sun is the actor, and it is in Sagittarius. This means that the Sun will take on typical Sagittarian traits and characteristics. Then there is the Moon. The Moon is in Pisces. This means that the Moon will adopt Piscean traits. This is the same logic that would follow for all of the planets. Two people can both possess a Leo Sun, but if one has a Taurus Moon and the other is an Aries Moon, then the way the energy manifests is going to be totally different! This is part of the reason why some people do not “relate” to their Sun sign. There is more happening than just that one sign in isolation. If that information wasn’t crazy enough, I am about to send you to the moon.

Take a deep breath because this will alter your brain chemistry.

Your birth chart is a map of your life - not your personality.

Your whole life doesn’t just reflect you. It reflects your parents, your neighborhood, your income, your partners, your enemies, and so on. So that Sun in Sagittarius? It might not even represent you. It could represent your father, or authority figures in your life. Moon in Pisces? That actually represents your relationship to money. Your birth chart is a summary of all that has happened in your life, and all that is yet to come. To learn more about this in depth and how it shows up in your specific birth chart, you’ll need to dig deeper into the planet's traditional significations, as well as something called the houses (the areas of life). For the purpose of this post, it’s impossible to dive into that without losing the plot, but I encourage learning about it if you’re interested! I’ll link reliable astrologers down below to help on that journey. Maybe in the future I’ll even write about it myself.

The biggest takeaway here is that the zodiac signs don’t just represent you, they represent an archetype. Each sign has its pros and cons, and one is not inherently “better” or “worse” than the other. It’s not considered “bad” to be a Capricorn, just because you’re a Gemini it doesn’t mean you’ll be two-faced, being a Leo won’t make you rich - at least not on its own. You are more than just an archetype in isolation.

The last myth that I would like to comment on is the belief that the signs = the houses. You have probably heard someone say something along the lines of “Capricorn represents career, and Aquarius represents your dreams” or “Aries is the first house and Cancer is the fourth house”. To put it plainly: This is false. Zodiac signs and houses are separate concepts. To help explain this, I’ll share a mini history lesson. The ancient Egyptians developed what we know today as the houses, and the Mesopotamians developed the Zodiac. During Alexander the Great’s conquest, these two cultures combined, and so did their astrology practices. Despite this emergence, the concept of “sign = houses” never came to be. This belief is actually more recent, and it has the unfortunate side effect of watering down both the significations of the houses and the Zodiac signs in the process. Someone’s houses (areas of life) are actually determined by their ascendant/rising sign, NOT the Sun sign. Maybe in the future, I’ll write about the importance of the Rising sign, too.

With that being said, I’d still love to give a brief synopsis on what some of these zodiacal archetypes mean. I’ll give a short summary on the meaning of all 12 signs, and you can use it to help you delineate your own birth chart!

REMEMBER: The signs DO NOT just represent you. It could be a neighbor, a partner, or even a pet

So, what does your sign mean? A lot, actually. This just scratched the surface. I hope it helped you learn something new about your zodiac sign!

P.S

Another cool tid bit of information is that in tropical astrology, the signs actually correlate with the seasons. Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn all begin the season, and that’s why they are known as “cardinal” signs. They represent the start of spring, summer, fall, and winter respectively. The fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius) hold the season down. Hence why they are called “fixed”,  because they don’t change. Lastly, the mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces) represent going from one season to another. Gemini is spring into summer, Virgo is summer into fall, Sagittarius is fall into winter, and Pisces is winter into spring.
